CyberArena Expedition

- Jackie Lee Choon Yau and Douglas Lam Wai Ching

On 1st of July 1998, Douglas and me made a trip down to Capitol Building where CyberArena is located. We are greeted warmly by a staff. We looked around an saw an array of Pentium II systems but on one staff. But little did we know that the polite staff who greeted us is actually the manager himself, Mr Robin Fan Siew Boon. We were surprised as he is a one-show there at the cafe. From him, we found out that CyberArena is formed by a 2 man team. (Even we have more manpower than them!) From the interview, what we could gather was that CyberArena is merely opened for business for about 3 weeks. Yes ! That's rite! Just 3 weeks and it already has a member base of over 200 in strength. Very promising indeed. But, the cafe does not serve food.....hee hee |8-)

CyberArena Cafe is located in Capitol Building which is next to the City Hall MRT Station. For the details of the rates and timing schedules of the events in the cafe, please just drop over and find out for your yourself or better still they have a simple website to tell you all you want to know about them. But still, nothing beats going down there personally.

(can't get my hands off the computers)

The layout of the shop can be seen rather clearly from this picture (left). The cafe provides a lot of services; Basic Internet Access and Network games like World Cup 98 , Unreal, Quake II, Starcraft, etc. You will definitely find the latest network games there. You won't be wasting your money as you will be using a complete multimedia system during your play or simply just surfing. All systems are Pentium II 266 Mhz, equipped with Canopus PURE3D Voodoo Cards, Canopus Total3D Video cards and Altec Lansing ACS 45 and big 19' Philips Monitor to enhance your computing experience.

The decoration of the cafe is simple. New game posters can be seen on the wall. A small notice board to pin up your short messages or even a challenge notice.

But we are not lucky enough to meet the other boss. Robin revealed that the other boss is a very busy man and the chance of him appearing in the cafe is very rare. Robin also shared with us some future plans for the CyberArena Cafe. They are currently liasing and seeking co-operation with Microsoft and Creative for their support. The operation is still in progress. So I figured that very soon we can expect Microsoft Joysticks and the new powerful Creative Voodoo II 12 Mb for your ultimate gaming experience. He also told us that CyberArena will be officially opened somewhere in August 1998.

Lastly, the Singapore Hardware Zone will like to wish Robin and Jeremiah success with their CyberArena Cafe in providing high-tech computing services to us and we urged that all Singaporeans go down to mix with the other gamers and feel the experience of network gaming together.
