CASE JP4

p6bx01.jpg (13002 bytes)   I was looking very hard at the board to see if there was any thing perculiar about it and guess what ?!! I found a mysterious jumper - JP4 under the third DIMM Slot clip. (See the Layout below) I remembered not setting this jumper before during the review. Thus, I went back to the Manual
(Well, I think Elitegroup should improve the standard of their manual by the way.) There was no documentation about this mysterious JP4 at all.

Thus, I immediately contacted Elitegroup. The technical team was efficient in attending to my resquests and provided answers to my doubts.

The undocumented JP4 (right: in red) is a manual switch to bypass the busspeeds locks when using Intel Pentium II , Celeron 333 Mhz and below. If you have forgotten, this board automatically limits you to lower FSBs which are lesser than 100 Mhz . That's right with this switch in jumper, you can unlock the power of 100 Mhz FSB to the above 66Mhz FSB based CPUs. Later in the test, you will be able to see the advantages of this option. The settings are as follows :

JP4  [ 1 2 3 ]

1-2 Shorted : (Default) 66/68/75/83Mhz

2-3 Shorted : 100/103.112/133Mhz

In addition, they have also provided me with an updated BIOS Version 2.4eM dated 08/12/1998 to detect the Celerons 300A and 333 Mhz. This new BIOS is not available worldwide; not even listed in their Website yet. Here's the good part, you can download it thru us online. If you wish to download it, click here. Flash your mainboard at your own risk.
